OneHand Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 25, 2026
OneHand does not send the student information you record to any server. Student names, observation notes, and audio recordings are all stored only on your device, and no one, including the developer, can view them.

1. Information stored only on your device

All of the following information created in the app is kept only in your device’s internal storage (the app’s own database and files).

• Class roster information, such as class names and types, and student numbers and names

• The text, tags, and date and time of observation notes

• Recorded audio files and speech recognition results

This information is not transmitted outside your device, and the developer cannot access it by any means. If you delete the app, this information is also deleted from your device.

2. How speech recognition works

Recorded speech is converted to text using only the on-device speech recognition of iOS and Android. The app is configured to require on-device recognition, so your voice is not sent outside your device, including to Apple or Google servers.

To improve recognition accuracy, the list of student names in the current class is passed to the on-device recognizer as reference information, but this information does not leave your device either.

3. Microphone permission

The app requests microphone and speech recognition permissions only when you use the voice recording feature. Recording takes place only when you start it yourself, and the app never records in the background on its own.

4. When the app communicates externally

The app uses the network only in the following cases, and none of them includes any student information.

① In-app purchase (Pro) processing: The app communicates with the RevenueCat service to check your purchase status. Your purchase history and a random identifier generated by the app are sent at this time; no information that directly identifies you, such as your name or email address, is sent.

② Checking for app updates: To keep the app’s screens up to date, the app downloads update files from the Expo update server. At this time, a random identifier that the app generates for each installation (the EAS client ID) and the app version and platform (iOS or Android) are sent; notes stored on your device are not transmitted.

③ Android speech model download requests: If the on-device speech recognition model for your language is not installed, the app may ask the device’s speech service (Google) to download it. The download is handled by the operating system and contains no student information.

④ Anonymous usage statistics (PostHog): To improve the app, it sends which features are used and how often (for example, how many notes are saved or exported, screen changes, app version, language, region setting and device type) together with a random identifier created by the app. Student names, note content, tag or class names and search terms are never sent. Usage statistics are kept for 1 year and then deleted.

⑤ Error reports (Sentry): If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends technical details (code location, app version, device and OS information) so the problem can be fixed. It is configured not to send on-screen text or student information. Error records are automatically deleted after 30 days.

During the communications in ①, ②, ④ and ⑤, your device’s IP address may be processed on the servers of the respective service provider (RevenueCat, Expo, PostHog or Sentry). For ④ and ⑤, the IP address is not stored and no location is collected; instead, the device’s language and region settings (for example, en, US) are sent.

The app does not use advertising or tracking across other apps and websites. You can turn off ④ and ⑤ at any time in Settings > Anonymous usage stats & error reports.

5. Backup files

The backup feature, which you run yourself, creates an encrypted file of your notes and exports it to a location you choose (such as the Files app or another app). Only you know the password, and the developer cannot recover it. You are responsible for storing and managing exported files.

The export features (copying text, PDF, Excel) also deliver data only at the time you choose and only to the destination you specify.

Export original audio & note bundles one note’s original recording, its text, first transcript and edit history, and SHA-256 hashes for tamper checking into a single ZIP file shared to the destination you choose. This file is not encrypted and contains student names, so check where you share it. The temporary file created by the app is deleted right after sharing.

6. About student information

This app is a tool for teachers to record observations of students for work purposes. It is not an app for students to use, and it does not collect information directly from students.

Recorded student information does not leave your device, but you, as the user (teacher), are responsible for following the privacy guidelines of your school and education authority. In case your device is lost, we recommend using a device lock and the app lock (Face ID, fingerprint, etc.).

The app includes features to completely delete a class and to archive notes at the end of the school year, so you can clean up notes whose retention period has ended.

7. Information for users in the EU/EEA and the UK

The controller for the processing described in section 4 ①, ②, ④ and ⑤ is SynIna Soft, contact: syninasoft@gmail.com. The developer does not process the student information that is stored only on your device.

The legal bases for this processing (Art. 6(1) GDPR and UK GDPR) are: for purchase processing, performance of a contract (point b); for update checks, our legitimate interest in keeping the app secure and up to date (point f).

RevenueCat, Expo, PostHog and Sentry are services based in the United States. Transfers of data to the United States rely on the safeguards provided by those providers (for example, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses).

Anonymous usage statistics and error reports are based on our legitimate interest in improving the app and keeping it stable (point (f)); you can object at any time by turning them off in Settings.

You have the right to access, rectify, and erase your personal data, to restrict its processing, to object to processing, and to data portability, and you may lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. Please send requests to syninasoft@gmail.com.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will inform you of the updated content along with an app update.
